Pop Art was born in the mid-1950s when artists started to rebel against the artistic establishment and tried to pull objects from their everyday life into their art. These objects weren’t considered “artistic,” but young artists sought to see their own lives reflected in their art.
These artworks were often humorous, satirical commentary on consumerism and the modern political systems.

Andy Warhol is arguably the most prolific Pop Artist to ever walk the earth. His various screen printings of Marilyn Monroe are often people’s first thoughts when they think of pop art. You may have even noticed that many of the images these AIs have generated are similar to his Monroe art.
Not only did his art explore the arena of pop culture, but Warhol himself was hugely influential in various popular culture mediums. He directed & produced films, authored numerous books, and even managed a rock band, The Velvet Underground.

Roy Lichtenstein is an American artist that is most famous for his work based on comics and advertising. Funnily enough, it was his one of his children who inspired Lichtenstein to start exploring comic art; they pointed to a comic strip and said “I bet you can’t paint as good as that.” This inspired Roy’s satirical process of recreating famous comic strips.

Eduardo Paolozzi

Bio
Eduardo Paolozzi is a man of some extreme life experiences. As the son of Italian immigrants, Paolozzi and his family were interned during the Second World War. Once released, Eduardo studied with famous Parisian artists such as Georges Braue and Jean Arp at the peak of the surrealist movement. Paolozzi then taught sculpture all across the world from Germany, to California, back to London again. In the 60s, his work with silk screen and collage where revolutionary in the world of graphic design.
